Former NBA Star JJ Redick Reportedly Interviews For Charlotte Hornets Head Coach Position

Former All-Star and sharpshooter joins the list of potential candidates for the vacant coaching role

The Charlotte Hornets are reportedly interviewing former NBA star JJ Redick for their head coach opening, according to multiple league sources.

Redick, a three-time All-Star and one-time NBA champion, has no prior coaching experience but has been vocal about his interest in pursuing a coaching career after retiring from playing in 2021. If hired, Redick would join a growing number of former players who have transitioned into head coaching roles in recent years.

The Hornets have been searching for a new head coach since firing James Borrego at the end of the 2022-23 season. The team finished with a disappointing 43-39 record and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

Redick, who played 15 seasons in the NBA, is widely considered one of the best shooters in league history. He holds the NBA record for most consecutive free throws made (59) and is also among the league leaders in career three-point shooting percentage (41.5%).

In addition to his shooting prowess, Redick is also known for his high basketball IQ and leadership skills. He was a key member of the Los Angeles Lakers' 2010 NBA championship team and played a significant role in the Philadelphia 76ers' resurgence in the late 2010s.

The Hornets are hoping that Redick's shooting expertise and leadership can help turn around their fortunes. The team has not won a playoff series since 2002 and has only made the playoffs twice in the past 10 years.
